SUMMER IS FADING INTO FALL AT BLUE IRS
September 26, 2014
The heat of Summer is fading and Fall is definitely in the air. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year with just a hint of crispness in the air, and the colors changing to lovely shades of oranges and reds. We can all slow down as vacations wind down and the children return to school and life just seems a little more calm. Our quilts have been patiently waiting for us to turn our attentions back to a craft that does so much to soothe our souls. I guess, in part anyway, that's one of the reasons I like this time of year so much!
The North State River Run is over and while we had a great time with our Mardi Gras Party and meeting all of the people who drove so far to visit us, it's time to re-focus on Blue Iris and what is happening around here. However, before we move on, I do want to congratulate the winners from Blue Iris. Carole Krause was the Costume winner and received a $20 Gift Certificate; Brent Jackson of Garden Grove, Ca. won the $100 Gift Certificate for going to all 13 shops; the Fabric Bingo winners were Didine Ebersole and Pat Totman, each winning 10 Fat Quarters of their choice. Everyone who participated in the River Run had a great time! A special thanks to Karen Flatbush for lending us her Mardi Gras Quilt and the Sewing Room for lending us a lot of Mardi Gras decorations. The staff of Blue Iris was on top of their game as always and I certainly couldn't have pulled it off without them! One more special thanks to my Mom who served as our "Hostess with the Mostest"....she did a terrific job of taking care of all our visitors!
Just as we wrapped up our River Run, we had a winner come in for the Row by Row Experience. Ruth Marks put together a great quilt that has been put on our facebook page, the California Row by Row page and is hanging in our shop for display! Ruth won 25 Fat Quarters of her choice for completing her quilt as well as a $25 Gift Certificate for using our row, the Honey Bee!
We have been doing a lot of brainstorming here at the shop to come up with some new and exciting classes. As we firm up our decisions on some of those, we will let you know what they are. For now, let me just go over what's coming up for next month.

Wenesdays are always Open Sew Day, with Oct. 8th being a Potluck as well.

Each class is $15 or you can sign up for all of them for $60. Each class will focus on a different technique so you will be learning a lot and there will also be several different binding techniques. Well worth the time and money and what you learn and make will also be useful for Christmas gifts, etc.
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17th & 18th, is Don Linn's class for the Double Wedding Ring. Don is a spectacular teacher and we are looking forward to having him teach this class. The cost of the class is $100 and it includes the templates needed to make this great quilt....this class is not one to miss so sign up soon!
Sat., Oct. 25th, starts our "Sincerely Yours" Machine Embroidery BOM taught by Karen Gonzales. This class is nearly full, but it's not too late to sign up if your interested in taking your machine embroidery skills to another level!
That's it for October...plenty for everyone! Remember too, that if your classroom is not in use, your welcome to come in individually or as a group to use it.....Just be sure to call and check first to make sure it's not in use. We love having company!
Till next time....have a great day and remember to just breathe!
